Job Description
Backend engineer building scalable checkout systems for Affirm Card, enabling transparent consumer financing. Developing Python or Kotlin services with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
Responsibilities:
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases
- Collaborate with product management, design and analytics during ideation and decision-making
- Articulate technical constraints and assess risks and trade-offs
- Create and monitor metrics for team artifacts
- Escalate operational issues and support keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
- Participate in growth and development activities, including interviews
- Develop and implement complex backend systems enabling seamless Affirm Card checkout experiences
- Partner with backend and mobile engineers, product, design and analytics to build scalable Card products
Requirements:
- Based in Spain
- 2+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
- Proficient in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Ability to write high-quality, understandable, well-tested and extensible code
- Comfortable navigating a large code base and debugging others' code
- Ability to provide feedback through code reviews
- Ability to develop solutions interacting with multiple software components
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
