Job Description
Backend engineer building scalable checkout systems for Affirm’s transparent pay-over-time Card products. Developing reliable services with Python or Kotlin for Poland-based users.
Responsibilities:
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks and deliver them in multiple phases
- Collaborate with product management, design and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks and trade-offs
- Support the operations and availability of team artifacts
- Create and monitor metrics and escalate when needed
- Support keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
- Participate in growth and development activities, including the interview process
- Develop and implement complex software systems for a seamless card checkout experience
- Build scalable systems and experiences powering Affirm Card products
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin
- Familiarity with distributed systems
- Familiarity with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
- Ability to write high-quality, understandable code
- Comfortable navigating a large code base and debugging others' code
- Experience providing code review feedback
- Ability to design solutions involving multiple software components
- Ability to write clear, well-tested and extensible code
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with a global engineering team
