Job Description
Software Engineer II building Python authentication services for Akamai’s distributed cloud and edge platform. Securing Control Center and Linode Cloud Manager with scalable web technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain backend services and full-stack web applications using Python, with potential use of JavaScript, TypeScript, and Java
- Implement security best practices, including OWASP Top 10
- Work with TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and TLS/SSL protocols
- Participate in all project lifecycle phases, from system design through deployment and post-release issue resolution
- Develop and integrate platform components used by customers and engineering teams
- Apply system design principles to create scalable solutions
- Oversee deployments, Docker containerization, proxy management, certificate handling, and reliability
- Use modern AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and efficiency
- Enhance the functionality and security of Akamai Control Center and Linode Cloud Manager authentication platforms
Requirements:
- Expertise in computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design, demonstrated through accredited education or equivalent practical experience
- Backend development experience with Python and Flask or FastAPI
- Experience creating production RESTful APIs
- Expertise in SQL, Docker, Git, and shell scripting
- Experience managing services in active production environments
- Practical knowledge of internet technologies, core web protocols, web security concepts, and OWASP Top 10 practices
- Openness to learning emerging technologies and using AI-assisted development tools
- Nice to have: full-stack/frontend experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, or Angular
- Nice to have: exposure to Java/Spring or NoSQL
- Nice to have: background in OAuth 2.0, SAML, or authentication systems
