Job Description
Staff engineer architecting cloud-native fulfillment and streaming platforms for CVS Health’s digital healthcare services. Leading backend engineering, reliability, compliance, and technical mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and implement highly scalable, fault-tolerant, cloud-native services using container orchestration and automated CI/CD pipelines
- Apply advanced software engineering practices across the full SDLC, including DDD, design patterns, secure coding, automated testing, quality gates, trunk-based development, and observability
- Troubleshoot and lead resolution of complex distributed-system issues, data consistency challenges, dependency failures, performance bottlenecks, and distributed tracing problems
- Collaborate with product, architecture, and business stakeholders on technical roadmaps, requirements, prioritization, and measurable KPIs
- Design and enforce microservice resiliency patterns including circuit breakers, bulkheads, retries, rate limiting, and service discovery
- Build and optimize real-time streaming data pipelines using event streaming platforms and CDC frameworks
- Deliver cost-optimized, scalable solutions using cloud cost profiling, storage tiering, service right-sizing, and architectural simplification
- Own reliability, performance, lifecycle, production support, recovery strategies, modernization, and refactoring of existing platforms
- Standardize emerging technologies, frameworks, and tooling to streamline development and improve search quality
- Lead technical risk assessments, architectural reviews, compliance validation, and engineering audits
- Mentor engineers, provide architectural guidance, conduct design reviews, establish engineering standards, and promote knowledge sharing
Requirements:
- 7+ years of software development in enterprise, web, or cloud applications
- 5+ years of backend software development experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka
- 3+ years of distributed caching experience
- 3+ years of experience developing in AWS, GCP, Azure, or similar public cloud environments; GCP preferred
- 3+ years designing, developing, and operationalizing microservices-based web/webservices applications in cloud-native environments
- 3+ years of technical lead experience within a matrixed environment, including mentoring junior engineers and cross-functional collaboration
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (high school diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
- Understanding of security threats and patterns and adherence to regulatory initiatives, HIPAA, PHI, PII, locational, and contractual data restrictions
- Experience with Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, or Harness
- Expert knowledge of functional, imperative, and object-oriented languages and methodologies
- Experience with Cassandra and Postgres preferred
- Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks
- Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
- Analytical thinking and ability to simplify complex problems systematically
