Job Description

Strategic Cloud Engineer optimising GCP costs and reliability for a regulated, multi-product SaaS platform. Operating Kubernetes, Terraform, observability, CI/CD, and AI-assisted infrastructure workflows.

Responsibilities:

  • Optimise GCP cloud spend through rightsizing, autoscaling, workload efficiency, cost allocation, and usage analysis
  • Build cost-observability dashboards using Grafana, BigQuery, and billing exports
  • Partner with engineering teams to architect cost-efficient solutions
  • Operate GKE and multi-cluster Kubernetes platforms, including cluster lifecycle, upgrades, node pools, scaling, ingress, domain routing, secrets, environment variables, and service deployments
  • Manage multi-tenant SaaS customer lifecycle infrastructure events
  • Own and evolve Terraform provisioning
  • Support and optimise GitLab CI/CD rollout pipelines
  • Automate customer provisioning and environment configuration
  • Operate platform services and observability tooling including VictoriaMetrics, StatsD, Grafana, Google Cloud Monitoring, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Apache Airflow
  • Troubleshoot distributed systems and production incidents
  • Provision and decommission instances, map domains, and support infrastructure across providers including Hetzner
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Use AI-assisted tools and agent-based development workflows to accelerate infrastructure development, automate runbooks, and improve CI/CD and distributed-systems debugging

Requirements:

  • Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform, including GKE, Compute Engine, IAM, and networking
  • Proven production experience with Terraform
  • 3+ years managing production Kubernetes, including cluster lifecycle and upgrades, ingress/reverse-proxy configuration, secrets, and configuration management
  • Ability to optimise production cloud spend through cost allocation, usage-pattern analysis, rightsizing, and scaling strategies
  • GitLab CI/CD or GitHub Actions experience, including pipeline debugging and release workflow support
  • Experience with Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, StatsD, Google Cloud Monitoring, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and Apache Airflow, Airbyte, or n8n
  • Scripting experience in Python, Bash, or similar
  • Working familiarity with AI-native IDEs such as Cursor and agent-based development environments
  • Ability to use AI to generate, review, and optimise infrastructure code
  • Multi-cloud exposure to AWS/Azure is nice to have
  • Experience in regulated environments such as SOC 2 or ISO is nice to have
  • Exposure to European infrastructure providers such as Hetzner is nice to have
  • Experience building internal developer platforms is nice to have
