Job Description
Remote senior leader overseeing Non-QM mortgage underwriting operations, KPIs, training, compliance, and team development. Managing underwriting quality and performance for a mortgage lending company.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Non-QM Underwriting team
- Work with the VP, Underwriting to implement KPIs and workflows
- Oversee daily underwriting team operations, including assigning loans for prompt underwriting decisions
- Assist underwriters with scenario escalations, prioritized rushes, conditions, and newly submitted loans to meet department turntimes
- Ensure training materials align with current lending regulations, investor guidelines, and company policies
- Monitor underwriting quality, identify improvement areas, and create targeted learning plans
- Partner with leadership to establish performance benchmarks and training effectiveness metrics
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and ongoing support to underwriters and support staff
- Maintain production goals and standards according to KPIs and production metrics
- Support organizational goals and values, welcome feedback, and contribute to a positive team spirit
- Stay current on mortgage underwriting industry trends, regulations, and best practices
- Manage leaders and staff within the Underwriting department, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and development
Requirements:
- 7+ years of mortgage underwriting experience
- Strong knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and USDA guidelines
- 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in mortgage underwriting or training
- In-depth knowledge of mortgage underwriting guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and investor regulations
- Proven experience driving departmental improvements, managing risk, and leading high-performing teams
- Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff
- Reliable internet connection
- Quiet, professional workspace
- Preferred: DE (Direct Endorsement) and/or SAR (Staff Appraisal Reviewer) certifications
- Preferred: Strong instructional design and training delivery skills (in-person and virtual)
- Preferred: Proven track record of improving underwriting quality and compliance through training initiatives
- Preferred: Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional training initiatives
- Ability to communicate via phone calls, emails, and ticketing systems
- Ability to work for long periods at a desk and on a computer
- May occasionally need to pick up and/or move up to 15 pounds
