Job Description

Senior Vice President expanding SmartStop Self Storage’s REIT investment distribution through IBD and RIA relationships. Managing advisor partnerships, new business development, and industry engagement across the Midwest.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and pursue new firm relationships to expand the Company’s distribution footprint
  • Support engagement strategies tailored to each firm’s structure and investment needs
  • Assist in negotiating new agreements with senior leadership
  • Manage and strengthen existing relationships with Independent Broker Dealers and RIAs within an assigned territory or coverage area
  • Provide consistent communication and updates to maintain satisfaction and alignment with Company priorities
  • Build advocates within IBD and RIA firms for the Company’s investment offerings
  • Leverage advisor relationships to support approvals and adoption
  • Gather advisor preference insights to inform product positioning
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams on strategies and resource use
  • Share field observations to identify process improvements and strengthen institutional relationships
  • Participate in industry conferences and trade associations, including IPA, ADISA, and ICI
  • Monitor competitive trends and regulatory developments affecting IBD and RIA distribution channels
  • Travel for advisor meetings, events, conferences, and other position requirements

Requirements:

  • Strong sales aptitude and ability to build credibility and influence advisors
  • Ability to meet deadlines and solve problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships across a territory
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Experience executing strategies with a solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms; Salesforce preferred
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for advisor meetings and events
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of financial services industry experience with meaningful focus on IBD and/or RIA channels
  • Established relationships with professionals within Independent Broker-Dealer and RIA firms
  • Working knowledge of alternative investment products, including REITs, BDCs, interval/tender offer funds, DSTs, and OZs
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend work
  • Ability to perform sedentary work, sit for prolonged periods, move between worksites, communicate information, and perform repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
