Job Description
Tax Manager managing U.S. Canada cross-border tax compliance for clients. Assisting with filings, mentoring junior staff, and optimizing processes in a remote environment.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in client meetings, provide technical insights, and build strong client relationships
- Assist in managing a portfolio of U.S., Canadian, and dual-resident clients with timely and accurate service delivery
- Serve as the main point of contact for client communications and relationship management
- Review simple and intermediate U.S. and Canadian tax filings
- Prepare or oversee preparation of Forms 1040, 1120, 1065, T1, T2, and T3
- Coordinate, or review cross-border disclosures (FBAR, 5471, 8621, 3520, etc.)
- Identify cross-border tax planning opportunities and risks
- Research and communicate complex tax issues to team members and clients
- Mentor and coach junior team members; support training and performance discussions
- Develop, improve, and document internal procedures and best practices
- Participate in business development activities through referrals, networking, or proposal participation
- Support process automation and system efficiencies
- Provide weekly updates during team check-ins
- Operate with minimal oversight and a high level of independence
Requirements:
- CPA designation (PH or equivalent)
- 5+ years preparing and reviewing U.S. personal tax returns (Form 1040)
- 5+ years working with a U.S. or Canadian accounting firm
- Strong technical understanding of U.S. and Canadian tax laws
- Fluent in written and spoken English; excellent communication skills
- Tech-savvy with advanced computer skills
- Ability to work night shift (aligned to Canadian hours)
- High attention to detail, strong organization, and ability to self-manage
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and deliver high-quality work independently
