Job Description
Principal leading ACCEL Schools’ virtual K-12 academy in Florida. Driving academic outcomes, instructional quality, teacher performance, and school operations.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the instructional and administrative leader of VPA Florida
- Develop, implement, and achieve the school’s academic vision, student advancement, and daily operations
- Work toward student achievement, school culture, and accountability goals
- Facilitate standards-based curriculum implementation
- Review weekly lesson plans and conduct teacher walkthroughs/debriefs
- Lead data-driven instructional efforts and support staff in using data to monitor program effectiveness
- Plan summer educational opportunities and before/after or supplemental programs
- Ensure effective instructional program implementation across grade bands
- Monitor teacher performance metrics and accountability
- Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with state and sponsor/authorizer regulations
- Coordinate school technology efforts with IT and recommend improvements
- Partner with Student Services to align instructional models and student supports
- Update parent and student manuals, policies, and handbooks
- Communicate the school mission and vision and solicit parent/family input
- Build professional relationships with parents and engage them in school life
- Coordinate special projects including peer mentoring, service learning, and community involvement
- Conduct home visits as needed
- Respond to parent concerns
- Address student discipline and implement conduct and suspension/expulsion procedures
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Education or related discipline is required; an advanced degree in education/educational leadership strongly preferred
- Current valid Principal license
- Turnaround experience
- Three or more years of experience working in an online school in an instructional leadership role
- Two or more years of experience in successful school administration/instructional leadership in an online school setting
- Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards
- Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks
- Experience in coaching teachers to improve their instructional planning, instructional practice, and classroom culture
- Ability to meet educational standards as applicable
- Ability to work well under pressure as well as effectively prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines consistently
- Understanding of and ability to manage confidential information
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
