Job Description
Underground Shift Supervisor leading Alaska gold mine crews, production, safety, equipment and training. Managing rotating campsite operations for Northern Star Resources, an Australian gold producer.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise, lead and direct the Underground Mining Team within the Mining Services Department
- Coordinate daily management, control and supervision of underground mining work areas in accordance with MSHA regulations
- Ensure miners understand written directions, mining plans and underground designs
- Communicate production strategy and agreed daily targets
- Monitor, manage and review progress with underground miners
- Coordinate mining activity with geologists, surveyors, mining engineers and contractors
- Organize and manage shift plans to meet production and cost targets
- Maintain underground production and status boards and complete paperwork
- Ensure personnel are trained and qualified in operating procedures
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and implement safety initiatives
- Ensure incidents and accidents are reported, investigated and reviewed
- Provide performance feedback and develop team succession plans
- Coordinate competency assessment and development with Mine Trainers
- Inspect working areas, mobile and fixed plant, equipment, and pre-start checks
- Monitor equipment operation, availability, breakdowns and non-conformances
- Maintain accurate records of mining operations, downtime, areas mined, incidents and inspections
- Update daily production statistics against targets
- Prepare upgrade criteria and revisions for manager approval
- Provide, monitor and document fair training opportunities and maintain employee training records
- Report to the Mine General Foreman and undertake additional responsibilities as requested
Requirements:
- Current Driver’s License
- Minimum 5 years' relevant experience in the mining industry
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and INX
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass a background check and post-offer physical
- 2 or more years’ experience in a supervisory or Lead role
- Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities
- Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in mine production tasks
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices
- Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations
- Ability to work a 21 day on, 21 day off rotating schedule, up to 12 hours a day or more
- Ability to work in extreme and changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise and light levels, and confined work areas
- Employees are required to stay on site at the company-provided camp during the work rotation
