Job Description
Manager of Accounting overseeing financial reporting and leading a team of accountants at Mercury Insurance. Ensuring compliance and effective processes for accurate financial documentation and analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of accountants and financial professionals. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to the Director of accounting and outside entities.
- Accountable for overall effectiveness and compliance with established accounting practices and procedures. Oversees timely completion of third-party statement reconciliations and prompt resolution of all items.
- Works in conjunction with state examiners and outside auditors to coordinate audits, prepare work papers, and gather pertinent financial information for annual audit reports.
- Analyzes operating results relative to established guidelines and takes appropriate action to improve performance, productivity, and effectiveness.
- Works with leadership to complete projects and requests from other business units.
- Leadership responsibilities include training and developing direct reports, providing coaching and documenting performance.
- Other functions may be assigned.
Requirements:
- Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA certification preferred)
- 5 years accounting experience, 2 of which must be in the insurance industry along with 2 years supervisory experience.
- Strong accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in using accounting software and Excel
- Familiarity with Statutory and US GAAP
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
