Job Description

Controller overseeing financial operations for a well-established insurance defense law firm. Focused on financial reporting, insights, and forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, and reconciliations
  • Manage and optimize financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting processes
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance analyses
  • Forecast cash flow and revenue based on insurance defense billing cycles and collections timing
  • Analyze billing trends, carrier payments, write-downs, and rate adjustments
  • Partner with firm leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations
  • Support and collaborate with the finance team to improve processes and efficiency
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and financial best practices
  • Assist with system evaluation and potential transition of legal billing platforms

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Prior experience working within an insurance defense law firm (required)
  • Strong understanding of legal billing, collections, and insurance carrier payment practices
  • Proven experience with financial forecasting and reporting
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online or similar accounting platforms
