Job Description

Financial Controller managing Relay's crypto accounting infrastructure. Leading month-end close and partnering with Data and Engineering teams for financial accuracy.

Responsibilities:

  • Build the accounting infrastructure
  • Design and own Relay's in-house crypto accounting layer — cost basis, FIFO/LIFO treatment, on-chain transaction recognition, and multi-asset reconciliation
  • Define how Relay Fees, Gas Fees, and Rebalance Fees are captured with FMV, coin, timestamp, and rate at transaction level
  • Partner with Data and Engineering to build the wallet inventory, balance sheet inputs, and financial tables that underpin the P&L
  • Own the close process
  • Run month-end and quarter-end close end-to-end: P&L, balance sheet and reconciliation
  • Establish mark-to-market processes and on-chain reconciliation across all wallets and chains
  • Drive toward a complete, auditable financials

Requirements:

  • 5+ years in accounting roles, with direct hands-on experience in GAAP accounting for digital assets: cost basis, FIFO/LIFO, mark-to-market, on-chain transaction recognition
  • Accounting systems design experience: you've built or significantly architected an accounting system
  • Comfortable working directly with data infrastructure; familiar with dbt, data modeling, and layered table concepts (you don't need to write the pipelines, but you need to spec and QA them)
  • Track record of independently owning month-end and quarter-end close with strong reconciliation discipline
  • Experience preparing for or managing external audits, with documentation and controls rigor
  • CPA or equivalent certification a plus
  • Prior experience at a DeFi protocol, crypto exchange, or blockchain infrastructure company a plus
