Job Description

Medical Affairs Director leading field-based Medical Liaisons for Novo Nordisk’s chronic disease therapies. Driving scientific strategy, provider relationships, compliance and team development across the US.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide field coaching, mentorship and management to field-based Medical Liaisons
  • Develop and implement strategies for key opinion leaders, organized providers, academic institutions, integrated delivery networks and other healthcare relationships
  • Ensure collaboration between field-based Medical Liaisons and other Novo Nordisk units and personnel
  • Represent Field Medical Affairs throughout the US affiliate and globally as needed
  • Provide administrative and management support for the field-based FMA program
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and company policies
  • Establish operating policies and procedures, budgets, schedules and performance standards
  • Lead and participate in area and national projects, team meetings and training
  • Coordinate FMA activities at assigned medical and scientific meetings and symposia
  • Present at symposia and maintain relationships with healthcare providers
  • Participate in Marketing and Sales meetings and provide industry insight
  • Profile and identify key investigators for clinical trials and future research
  • Respond to medical questions in accordance with legal, regulatory and company guidelines
  • Review expense reports, time and activities, budgets and performance measures
  • Coordinate information and support requests involving research, CME, product information, education and clinical studies
  • Work with regional and medical-marketing teams to develop thought-leader relationships
  • Assist with presentations for Pre-POA, POA and other company meetings
  • Support product and clinical-data education using approved resources
  • Recruit and select staff and fill open positions
  • Set and review annual goals, coach personnel and manage individual development plans
  • Communicate policies, procedures and organizational changes
  • Coordinate training and development approaches with other Field Directors
  • Evaluate Medical Liaisons in the field and provide feedback and guidance
  • Mentor Field Directors, Medical Liaisons and RMSs
  • Prepare Medical Liaisons for field activities by reviewing agendas and presentations
  • Spend field time with direct reports to coach and develop personnel
  • Assess workforce talent and gaps and plan resource needs

Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of experience in Medical Liaison or equivalent role
  • 6 years of previous management experience, including at least 2 years leading field medical affairs personnel
  • 8 years of progressive pharmaceutical industry experience
  • An advanced healthcare or science degree such as DO, MD, PharmD, PhD or DNP
  • Ability to establish and strengthen internal and external customer relationships
  • Proven success in establishing opinion-leader relationships, organized-provider strategy and team management
  • Significant cross-functional collaborative leadership capability
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and proactively resolve team-wide challenges
  • Self-development through leadership/personal development, scientific literature and competitor knowledge
  • Ability to work autonomously and strategically
  • Flexibility and foresight to navigate field medical personnel through a changing market
  • Leadership and strategic thinking skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must maintain good standing under Novo Nordisk’s motor vehicle points threshold
  • 50–75% overnight travel required
  • Direct therapeutic-area experience preferred
  • At least 3 years of healthcare-system experience preferred
