Job Description
Medical Affairs Director leading clinical strategy, scientific engagement, and evidence generation for Encoded Therapeutics’ gene therapy programs. Supporting chronic pain and early-stage clinical development.
Responsibilities:
- Define and implement the strategic plan for Encoded’s ETX301 clinical development program for pain
- Collaborate with Scientific Communications, Clinical Development, the Medical Office, and Patient Advocacy
- Build relationships with Key Opinion Leaders to support clinical trial design and enrollment
- Partner with Commercial, Strategy, Pre-clinical/Translational, Clinical Development/Operations, and Regulatory teams
- Provide scientific and competitive insights from conferences and medical engagements
- Develop and manage Investigator Sponsored Studies, observational studies, and other research supporting endpoint development or validation
- Develop disease-state, mechanism-of-action, target-product-profile, and clinical-trial communication plans
- Prepare or review scientific communication materials
- Define and manage long-range budget forecasts
- Identify, recruit, and manage vendors
- Develop methods and procedures for scientific presentations
- Represent Encoded and present data at advisory boards, investigator meetings, congresses, and other forums
Requirements:
- MD, PhD, or MD/PhD in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline
- For MD/MD-PhD: minimum of 4-6+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, or Medical Strategy
- For a PhD: minimum of 5–8+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience with progressive leadership in Medical Affairs (MSL, Scientific Communications, Medical Strategy)
- A minimum of 2–3 years specifically supporting clinical development of Phase 1–3 programs
- Proven ability to develop internal relationships in a highly matrixed environment and external relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and industry experts
- Prior experience and expertise in neuroscience and/or advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs)
- Ability to lead by example, build interdependent partnerships, and foster collaboration and teamwork
- Proven success in prioritization and management of several complex, concurrent projects with tight deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication and high-level negotiation skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong analytical skills, especially understanding and interpreting scientific and clinical research and literature
- Understanding of government and industry guidelines, regulations, and laws for scientific/medical exchange and communication
- Travel up to 40%, including internationally, may be required
- Gene therapy experience preferred
- Neurologic disease experience, particularly pain programs or epilepsy, preferred
- Experience across pre-clinical/clinical-stage and commercial-stage companies preferred
