Job Description

Director of Finance at NYSHEX managing financial planning and analysis in Cape Town remotely. Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy for a shipping innovation company.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead NYSHEX’s Financial Planning & Analysis function, owning financial modeling, forecasting, scenario planning, and investment analysis.
  • Partner with the COO and CEO to guide strategic financial decisions across pricing, resource allocation, organizational design, and long-term planning.
  • Establish and run the company-wide budgeting and planning process.
  • Drive and develop automated dashboards and reports on KPIs, ensuring leadership has real-time financial clarity.
  • Support investor relations efforts, including board meeting preparation and fundraising readiness.
  • Evaluate financial risks and opportunities; recommend mitigation actions and optimization levers.
  • Manage the company’s capitalization table.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Commercial, and Operations teams to support financial alignment and resource planning.
  • Oversee financial controls, processes, and policies to ensure accuracy, discipline, and scalability.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to our bookkeeping and accounting support structure.

Requirements:

  • 8 + years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, corporate finance, investment banking, or related fields.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain complex financial models.
  • Experience owning forecasting and budgeting cycles.
  • Preferred background in accounting (US GAAP) is desired.
  • Strong business partnering experience with senior leadership.
  • Clear, concise communication skills—especially the ability to distill data into actionable recommendations.
  • High comfort operating in a fast-moving, high-expectations environment.
  • A low-ego, high-ownership mentality.
  • Experience in logistics, shipping, SaaS, or data-driven product companies is a plus.
  • Experience in post-Series B/C high-growth environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting in regulated or multi-stakeholder industries is a plus.
  • Prior experience working on globally distributed teams is a plus.
