Job Description
Director of Software Engineering leading a global team to modernize engineering practices within Commerce, the parent company of BigCommerce, with a focus on infrastructure and developer productivity.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with engineering leadership to define and execute the roadmap for infrastructure unification
- Drive evolution toward cloud-native environments
- Ensure core data and messaging layers are optimized for global scale
- Lead developer productivity engineering to reduce cycle times across workflows
- Coach and mentor engineering managers and technical leaders
Requirements:
- 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years managing teams
- Expertise in cloud-native, containerized, and highly orchestrated environments
- Knowledge of Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code
- Hands-on experience optimizing global performance and security using edge platforms like Cloudflare
- Ability to evaluate system design trade-offs and identify application weaknesses
