Job Description
Emergency department coding specialist applying CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes. Supporting CorroHealth’s healthcare reimbursement solutions through accurate facility and professional-fee coding.
Responsibilities:
- Provide CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding across 1–4 specialties
- Perform professional fee, facility, or HCC coding
- Provide coding services to support clients
- Calculate Professional Fee and/or Facility E/M levels using the company algorithm
- Recognize critical care cases based on patient acuity
- Code ER surgical procedures to capture additional revenue when appropriate
- Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest available specificity
- Apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes
- Interpret coding guidelines for accurate code assignment
- Identify the impact of documentation on code assignment and reimbursement
- Follow AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding and the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
- Comply with internal policies and procedures
- Participate in company-provided training and education
- Maintain compliance with privacy and security rules and protect confidential information
- Perform other duties assigned by leadership
Requirements:
- All coders must be certified through either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P)
- Minimum of 6 months of on-the-job experience
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance
- Working knowledge and experience with systems such as EMR and billing systems
- Phone, reliable internet connection, and current coding materials such as CPT and ICD-10-CM coding references
- Maintain ongoing productivity level and accuracy rate of 95% or higher
- Maintain quality score of 95% or higher
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing
- Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work from home independently in coding skills
- Maintain at least one credential through AAPC or AHIMA
- Compliance with privacy, security, confidentiality, and personal health information requirements
