Job Description
Engineering Manager leading distributed systems and engineers for The RealReal’s authenticated luxury resale marketplace. Driving scalable Ruby on Rails and Elixir e-commerce capabilities for international expansion.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers in designing and implementing high-quality software solutions
- Lead engineering efforts for the e-commerce platform, focusing on scalability, user experience, and international expansion
- Collaborate with product management, ML, marketing, and other cross-functional teams
- Develop and implement international capabilities for buyers
- Oversee development and maintenance of core Ruby on Rails and Elixir systems
- Ensure scalability, performance, and security of core systems
- Foster technical excellence, innovation, continuous learning, and improvement
- Align engineering activities with broader company objectives
Requirements:
- Proven track record in managing and scaling distributed, public cloud-native systems and services
- Hands-on experience collaborating with machine learning teams
- Strong understanding of relational database systems; MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire a team of engineers
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Strong system design fundamentals
- Some real people-management experience, with a track record of helping engineers level up
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Extensive experience in Ruby on Rails development and architecture preferred
- Experience working on and improving performance of Jamstack-based applications preferred
- Experience with CRMs such as Salesforce preferred
- Experience with Elixir or willingness to learn and incorporate it into the tech stack preferred
- Experience with localization/internationalization and cross-border systems in larger organizations preferred
