Job Description
Head of Engineering leading Consensys’s blockchain infrastructure organization. Delivering reliable Ethereum-based networks and institutional client programs across globally distributed teams.
Responsibilities:
- Own the delivery organization across core engineering, smart contracts, and infrastructure/DevOps
- Deliver institutional client programs against contractual availability, latency, and evidence commitments
- Own availability definitions, maintenance windows, disaster recovery, incident processes, proof, system reliability engineering, and on-call rotations
- Operate public, sovereign, and permissioned production networks
- Work with the Security Lead to establish security standards
- Define and sequence the technical roadmap with Product and Sales
- Complete separation from the former parent, including observability, deployment tooling, identity, and infrastructure-as-code
- Set engineering standards and release processes for testing, shipping, rollbacks, reviews, and maintenance
- Serve as a credible technical voice with institutional clients and partners
- Hire, lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and team leads
- Foster a remote-first, high-performing engineering culture
- Manage performance and career development
- Coordinate priorities, dependencies, resourcing, and delivery across engineering
- Contribute to major architecture and investment proposals
- Integrate company-wide objectives into measurable engineering OKRs and communicate progress
- Establish engineering decision rights and escalation paths with Product, Sales, and Protocols
- Delegate delivery, incidents, and design decisions while serving as the exception path
- Guide practical AI adoption in engineering work
- Reduce operating costs without reducing quality or productivity
- Meet customers or partners where engineering involvement is valuable
Requirements:
- Deep Ethereum and EVM experience
- Experience leading an engineering team of 20+ across multiple teams as a leader of leaders, at this company stage
- Experience owning production systems under contractual SLAs for demanding customers
- Personal accountability for an outage in front of a customer
- Deep technical expertise and ability to challenge designs and assess estimates
- Distributed-systems depth
- Experience with blockchain, or strong infrastructure/backend leadership in payments, exchanges, or market infrastructure
- Experience hiring well and retaining people through a hard period
- Sound technical judgment, strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and prioritization skills
- Direct, people-first, empathetic, approachable leadership style
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- High emotional intelligence
- Ability to coach, delegate effectively, and build autonomous teams
- Pragmatic and organized approach
- Willingness to use AI daily and make it a default team practice
- Useful but not required: L2 or ZK-rollup architecture
- Useful but not required: regulated financial infrastructure, audit, change control, evidence, SOC 2 / ISO 27001
- Useful but not required: carve-out, separation, or post-acquisition integration experience
