Job Description

Field Surveyor operating GPS and machine-control systems for Spriggs Excavation’s multi-state construction projects. Traveling continuously to sites and ensuring work meets design specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate survey equipment, data collectors, and GPS systems to measure distances, elevations, and angles
  • Conduct surveys to measure soil or rock grade and assess elevations for grading
  • Read and interpret design plans and provide accurate survey data
  • Establish vertical and horizontal control networks using GPS systems
  • Set up and calibrate base station poles
  • Install and manage survey files on GPS-equipped construction equipment such as dozers and motor graders
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machine control issues
  • Organize and maintain survey data, field notes, and project files using SharePoint, Propeller, and data collectors
  • Mentor others in survey techniques and GPS systems
  • Work closely with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager to ensure construction complies with design specifications and project drawings
  • Help advance company standards and best practices for survey-related functions

Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time to support multiple job sites across the U.S.
  • Two-year technical engineering/surveying training or combination of high school diploma and experience
  • Strong working knowledge of surveying equipment and techniques, including Topcon GPS, Trimble GPS, Base Stations, machine controls, and lasers
  • Prior experience using Topcon products is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design plans
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations
  • Competence in Bluebeam, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory
  • Familiarity with Propeller and Magnet software is preferred
  • Prior experience in a survey role supporting renewable energy projects is preferred
  • Surveyor License is preferred
  • Drone License is preferred
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test
