Job Description

Medical Facility Surveyor conducting CMS compliance surveys across U.S. healthcare facilities. Preparing deficiency reports and communicating findings under federal healthcare quality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site Initial, Recertification, Revisit and/or Desk Audit, Complaint, Focus, and Pilot surveys of long-term care and non-long-term care programs throughout the United States and Territories
  • Conduct surveys in accordance with the State Operations Manual
  • Prepare accurate deficiency reports according to the Principles of Documentation and HMS Master Writing Guide
  • Link identified deficient practices clearly with associated regulations
  • Complete documentation using laptop or tablet technology while meeting client deadlines and timeframes
  • Report Immediate Jeopardy and Substandard Quality of Care findings to appropriate Quality Assurance staff
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance staff to ensure findings are adequately documented and defensible before submission to CMS or SSA
  • Submit documentation according to established deadlines
  • Perform duties in accordance with HMS Core Values and applicable contract requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of CMS and HMS policies and procedures, Medicare regulations, and CMS QSO memoranda
  • Identify opportunities to improve the survey process and communicate them to appropriate leadership staff

Requirements:

  • Experience completing CMS surveys is required
  • Required CMS training for provider type/s of interest
  • Ability to critically think and demonstrate competent decision-making skills
  • Ability to perform all facility-required tasks
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preference given to registered nurses, LPNs, licensed social workers, and dietitians
  • Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) qualification for LTC surveyors
  • Licensed RN is preferred
  • Ability to pass a federal background check
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
  • Extensive travel required
  • Willingness to accept survey assignments as needed and directed by CMS and HMS
