Job Description
Inventory Technician managing medical gas cylinders at Philadelphia-area hospitals for Airgas, a leading U.S. industrial and medical gas supplier. Tracking inventory, deliveries, safety, and customer orders.
Responsibilities:
- Travel to medical center customer sites in the Philadelphia area
- Nurture customer service relationships and build strong customer partnerships
- Establish and support optimal cylinder gas inventory levels
- Support seasonal inventory-level adjustments
- Place and process orders through AirGas.com/SAP
- Document cylinder gas inventory usage using Google Forms or Google Sheets
- Separate empty, full, and active cylinders properly
- Rotate non-specialty gas products every 30 days
- Perform scheduled rounds across facility locations to maintain target inventory levels
- Pick up and return empty cylinders to storage areas
- Monitor and receive cylinder gas deliveries and verify delivery documentation
- Safely change out gas/liquid cylinder manifolds at service sites
- Follow facility guidelines, Airgas standards, and applicable regulatory frameworks, including SAFECOR, HS&E, MQCT, CGMP, and OSHA
- Complete assigned tasks according to established procedures
- Assess situations and collaborate with team members to resolve complex challenges
- Respond to urgent needs to maintain uninterrupted product supply
- Conduct periodic cylinder inventory audits
- Provide inventory usage reports to hospital partners
- Collaborate with local accounts payable to support accurate billing and timely processing
- Promote safety for team members, customers, and the community
- Collaborate with the local safety department on medical gas handling and storage practices
- Submit Good Catch incidents to a manager or customer
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED, or Associate Degree plus equivalent experience
- Strong customer service orientation
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively without supervision
- Thorough understanding of cylinder gases and safe handling methods
- Ability to understand and follow stringent safety rules
- Annual immunizations, including TB screening and flu shot, as required by clients
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of record keeping and documentation
- Ability to use the Airgas system to place orders and monitor cylinder balances
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Ability to write routine business reports and correspondence in English
- Ability to present information and respond to employee and customer questions
- Practical problem-solving ability in situations with limited standardization
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages
- Willingness and ability to travel 60–100% of work time
