Job Description

Substation Lead Design Engineer responsible for deliverables associated with substation design projects. Leading design activities and providing guidance to junior engineers in a remote setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design of deliverables associated with substation design projects supporting one of our largest electric utility clients
  • Attend project site visits to assist in the development of scope of work and help define project objectives
  • Prepare engineering cost estimate and man-hour estimates and schedules
  • Develop top level documents for Electrical Physical and Protection & Control packages
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and/or designers in the development of detailed design documents
  • Perform calculations for studies and reports including, but not limited to, grounding & lightning protection, and AC/DC load studies
  • Prepare equipment specifications for procurement of major equipment
  • Perform quality control reviews of design calculations, and drawings
  • Provide short term field support during construction
  • Coordinate design activities with other disciplines (Civil/structural, telecom, transmission, etc.)
  • Serve as technical advisor for the team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university
  • 8+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and designers designing substation projects
  • Experience with designing substations.
