Job Description
Cloud Services Lead Software Engineer architecting Allstate’s distributed insurance technology platforms. Leading Java, AWS, microservices, CI/CD, testing, and production operations.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and design digital products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems
- Apply scientific and technological knowledge, methods, and experience to software design, implementation, testing, and documentation
- Own and manage applications in production and be accountable for digital product success through achieving KPIs
- Participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, providing technical input to backlogs in partnership with the product manager
- Participate in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups
- Participate in retrospectives and encourage empathetic feedback
- Coach the team and lead daily paired programming and test-driven development practices
- Establish continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices
- Provide system design and architecture leadership, collaborating with team members and achieving joint ownership of decisions
- Observe and monitor key systems, analyzing logs and traces
- Manage and lead responses to production outages or errors
Requirements:
- Designing and developing REST APIs using Java Spring Boot, including tooling for documentation, versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management
- Hands-on experience making architectural decisions, designing, and delivering large-scale distributed systems in cloud environments, including microservices architectures
- Experience in backend development design and implementation, databases (SQL, NoSQL, caching), and event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka)
- Deep experience with TDD and writing meaningful unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for front-to-back coverage
- Experience in web and API security, including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML
- Experience using distributed version control systems (Git/GitHub), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (Maven, Gradle, npm, Artifactory, etc.), and Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, etc.)
- Experience working in an XP/Agile environment, including pairing
- Experience with problem-solving, e.g., analyzing performance bottlenecks, next-level resiliency, and messaging pitfalls
- Experience with production support in a large-scale distributed environment, using tools like Splunk, Datadog, and CloudWatch; sharing an on-call rotation is likely
- Python, including AWS Lambda (preferred)
- Enterprise routing and load balancing, including AWS API Gateway (preferred)
- Experience in the insurance domain, or other finance-critical domains (preferred)
- Experience with payments or payment gateways (preferred)
- 5 or more years of experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated Technical Leadership
- The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation
