Job Description
Remote sales engineer estimating turnkey industrial electrical and automation integration projects for Shermco US. Specifying PLC/HMI solutions, preparing proposals, and supporting customer modernization initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Consult with industrial clients to gather operational requirements and determine appropriate control system architecture from limited information
- Develop estimates for turnkey integration solutions covering engineering, control panel fabrication, desktop HMI setup, PLC programming, field installation, and commissioning
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to estimate industrial electrical projects
- Estimate new construction and retrofit upgrades
- Identify opportunities to modernize aging industrial infrastructure, including migrating legacy Allen-Bradley PLC-5 platforms
- Attend pre-bid meetings and tour job sites to confirm take-offs
- Prepare project takeoffs, submittals, and proposals
- Request vendor quotes for equipment and materials, including PLC and HMI hardware/software
- Complete client-required documents on time
- Draft scope inclusions, exclusions, and estimate clarifications
- Identify and meet customer needs, expectations, and requirements
- Interact with employees, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders
- Maintain supporting estimate files and supplier pricing documentation
- Support other department personnel, including estimates in other disciplines
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the industrial electrical industry
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in construction estimating
- Journeyman Electrician license preferred
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, codes, and standards
- Strong functional understanding of various PLC platforms and industrial networks
- Ability to conceptualize and specify complete PLC/HMI hardware and software solutions from limited customer inputs
- Background in automation and controls, including PLCs, instrumentation, valves, mechanical control panels, and electrical control panels is a plus
- Familiarity with NECA rates, structures, and shortcomings
- Familiarity with NEC/NFPA-70E
- Understanding of material quoting, RFQs, and vendor interactions
- Ability to address or escalate specification conflicts, drawing inaccuracies, and questions from drawing packages
- Familiarity with estimating/installing electrical raceway, including cable tray, EMT, rigid, IMC, and plastibond, plus associated fittings and appurtenances
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and automation construction drawings, wiring details, installation details, P&IDs, layout drawings, panel drawings, and BOMs
- Ability to interpret complex construction specifications related to electrical, automation, and control-related mechanical means and methods
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT, Adobe Acrobat/Bluebeam
- Advanced/expert experience in Accubid, including databases, projects, custom assemblies, labor rates, difficulty modifiers, and LiveCount
- Must speak, read, and write English fluently
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate with customers, contractors, owners, and specialty equipment suppliers to determine scopes of work and required materials/equipment
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
- Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player in a remote position
