Job Description
Relay protection engineer developing microprocessor-based schemes, coordination studies, and system models. Supporting Mesa Associates’ transmission and distribution power engineering projects.
Responsibilities:
- Act as Lead Engineer on moderately complex studies and settings projects
- Interface with clients, other engineering firms, and internal departments
- Identify study/settings input requirements and coordinate collection of input information and data
- Conceptualize initial design approaches for major project phases or take overall engineering responsibility for routine projects
- Prepare and verify calculations using engineering formulas, skills, or application-specific software
- Manage personal task assignments within scope, schedule, and budget
- Monitor project milestones and schedules
- Perform technical and coordination checking/review of deliverables and project or study documents
- Ensure deliverables comply with procedures and applicable design requirements
- Prepare reports documenting study or settings processes and results
- Assist clients with compliance requirements
- Mentor less experienced associates
- Accept responsibility for technical adequacy of deliverables
- Lead studies and complete assignments on schedule and under budget
- Develop relay protection schemes using microprocessor-based relays for transmission and distribution assets
- Perform protective device coordination for transmission lines, buses, transformers, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, and reactors
- Develop logic settings for relay schemes
- Perform area protective device coordination studies
- Develop system component modeling
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or better in Electrical Engineering
- 5 years of experience collaborating with both internal and external customers
- Minimum of 6 years Utility / Substation Experience with a focus on Settings and/or Studies strongly preferred
- Experience with PSCAD, MathCAD, SKM CAPE, ASPEN, acSELerator (SEL-5030), ETAP, Siemens PSS E preferred
- Experience with CAD preferred
- Advanced calculation skills

- Collaboration skills
- PMP or PE preferred
