Job Description
Part-time Senior Accountant processing payroll entries, reconciliations, and reporting for TEGNA, a local news and services company. Supporting Finance teams across 64 television stations.
Responsibilities:
- Interact with Finance Business Partners and Site Financial Analysts across TEGNA’s television-station portfolio to record payroll expenses in financial statements
- Extract payroll general ledger reports from UKGPro, resolve mapping issues, review accuracy, and upload journal entries to Oracle Cloud ERP
- Prepare and upload monthly payroll accrual journal entries
- Prepare and upload payroll reclasses as necessary
- Reconcile tax bank drafts to payroll registers and reclass drafts to the correct liability account
- Upload detailed payroll data to the online reporting tool used by Finance Business Partners, Financial Analysts, and National Shared Service Center Accountants
- Upload UltiPro detailed payroll data to an Access database for Corporate Accounting and ad hoc reports/queries
- Build and maintain queries, reports, and tables in the Access database
- Maintain user access to the online reporting tool
- Prepare account reconciliations for assigned payroll general ledger accounts and resolve variances promptly
- Develop process improvements for payroll system feeds to the general ledger
- Maintain Ultipro GL mapping for earning, deduction, tax codes, and employee mapping
- Represent Payroll from a Finance perspective during system upgrades and modifications
- Respond to internal and external audit queries promptly and professionally
- Provide analysis and reporting support for internal and external business partners
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum 4–6 years accounting experience, including 2 or more years of payroll accounting experience
- Experience with UKGPro payroll software preferred
- Experience with Oracle Cloud ERP or similar ERP preferred
- Good knowledge of accounting policies and procedures
- Desire, ability and curiosity to investigate and recommend improvements to processes, procedures, and technology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access
- Proven attention to detail, good organizational and prioritizing skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to be self-motivated and proactive
- Collaborative approach and experience working well with cross-functional teams
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
