Job Description
Senior Client Accounting Manager managing UK accounting clients for a remote accounting and outsourcing firm. Coordinating service delivery, quality assurance, onboarding, teams, compliance and billing.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of UK accounting clients and act as the primary point of contact.
- Build and maintain professional client relationships, conduct regular meetings, provide progress updates, and resolve or escalate queries.
- Monitor client satisfaction, retention, risks and service opportunities.
- Maintain accurate client activity records in Salesforce or a similar CRM system.
- Coordinate bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, management accounts, year-end accounts and audit support services.
- Review completed work, ensure quality standards and client requirements are met, and provide feedback and corrections.
- Ensure client deadlines and service-level expectations are achieved while minimising errors and rework.
- Allocate work, monitor portfolio progress, track budgets and hours, and address delivery bottlenecks.
- Coordinate clients, accounting teams and internal departments and communicate priority or deadline changes.
- Conduct weekly team and workflow meetings; monitor productivity, workload and service delivery.
- Coach and support team members and assist with accounting, bookkeeping, software and client-related queries.
- Coordinate new-client onboarding, develop implementation plans, document processes and monitor transition into ongoing service delivery.
- Maintain standard operating procedures, training resources and client documentation.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation, VAT requirements, payroll regulations and internal procedures.
- Identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and support automation and workflow-standardisation initiatives.
- Review timesheets and Lists of Duties, reconcile hours against budgets, validate billable hours and prepare billing-adjustment notes.
- Ensure client-facing reports and billing documentation are accurate and issued on time.
Requirements:
- A diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, client services or account management within an accounting practice.
- Experience managing multiple client portfolios and deadlines.
- Experience coordinating accountants, bookkeepers or outsourced finance teams.
- Experience reviewing bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, management accounts or year-end accounts.
- Good knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, management accounts and annual financial statements.
- Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or CaseWare.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
- Strong client relationship and communication skills.
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Confidence coordinating remote teams.
- A professional, proactive and service-focused approach.
- A professional accounting qualification such as SAICA, SAIPA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent. (Desirable)
- Experience working with UK accounting firms or UK clients. (Desirable)
- Experience using Salesforce or another CRM system. (Desirable)
