Job Description
Senior Data Engineer building Python, SQL, AWS, and Redshift pipelines for Nortal’s global merchant reporting. Developing financial reporting services and a self-service Reporting API.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain data pipelines and reporting services supporting a global merchant base
- Develop financial, payment, settlement, and transaction reporting
- Adapt and extend existing reports based on merchant requests
- Manage multiple priorities and short turnaround times
- Contribute to a self-service Reporting API enabling merchants to generate reports autonomously
- Take ownership of assigned tasks, identify blockers early, and drive work through completion
- Participate in on-call rotations approximately every four weeks and respond to production incidents
- Communicate progress, risks, and blockers proactively
- Integrate AI-assisted development tools, including Claude, into development workflows and automated development and pull-request reviews
- Use Java and Python backend development skills as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor´s Degree in Computer science, Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering and/or reporting, delivering production-grade data solutions
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and SQL, including data pipelines, reporting solutions, and data workflows
- Hands-on experience with AWS data services in production environments; Redshift ideally included
- Ability to work autonomously and manage tasks from requirements through delivery
- Strong ownership and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
- Experience working in distributed teams across locations and time zones
- Experience with data where accuracy, consistency, and traceability are critical
- Comfort with rotating on-call responsibilities approximately once every four weeks
- Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar
- Advanced English level required for work with US clients
- Java backend development experience is a strong plus
- Financial, payment, settlement, or transaction reporting data experience is a strong plus
- CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices preferred
