Job Description
Senior Engineering Manager leading Grafana Labs’ frontend platform and navigation squads. Driving observability product delivery, engineering standards, AI adoption, and team development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Frontend Platform and Navigation squads, owning performance, delivery and customer outcomes
- Set expectations, delegate, coach and develop team members, provide feedback, address performance gaps and build trust and accountability
- Own hiring and team planning across both squads
- Lead discovery with customers, community members and internal users to shape roadmaps and priorities
- Partner with Product, Design and engineering leaders to set priorities, resolve dependencies and make trade-offs
- Own delivery from discovery through rollout and measurement, including milestones and risk management
- Use AI in management work to synthesise research, inform roadmap and resourcing decisions, and streamline coordination and reporting
- Lead adoption of AI and automation across engineering and operational workflows
- Set engineering direction for frontend foundations, developer experience, accessibility, architecture, tooling, reliability and multitenant capabilities
- Set engineering direction for navigation, search and resource organisation
- Uphold engineering standards for quality, security and operability, including evaluation of AI-assisted work
- Lead improvements across Grafana and R&D that increase engineering productivity and business outcomes
- Participate in the engineering management on-call rota and drive improvements that reduce recurring disruption
- Use Grafana AI capabilities for observability and incident investigation, contributing feedback to product roadmaps
Requirements:
- Significant experience managing senior engineers, building healthy teams and developing technical leaders
- Strong technical foundation in modern web or frontend systems
- Track record of turning ambiguous, cross-team problems into clear priorities and measurable results
- Strong product and customer judgement
- Clear, concise written communication
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, globally distributed organisation
- Appreciation for open-source development
- Practical experience using AI and automation in leadership work and leading teams to adopt them
- Experience with React, TypeScript or comparable large-scale frontend ecosystems (bonus)
- Experience leading a developer platform team, including support for plugins or extensions (bonus)
- Experience with navigation, search, information architecture or resource-management products (bonus)
- Experience delivering multitenant SaaS or major platform migrations (bonus)
- Experience working on a widely adopted open-source product (bonus)
