Job Description

Senior accountant serving Australian small businesses with end-to-end accounting, tax, and advisory support. Managing 50–100 clients through reporting, BAS, bookkeeping, and financial insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage an ongoing portfolio of approximately 50–100 Australian small business clients
  • Provide end-to-end accounting support across the client portfolio
  • Prepare financial reporting and management reporting
  • Prepare and complete Australian BAS and tax-related work
  • Handle bookkeeping and core accounting activities
  • Complete bank reconciliations and manual journals
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
  • Support weekly bill runs and payment processes where required
  • Review client financial information and identify significant variances or changes
  • Analyze the reasons behind changes in financial performance
  • Identify observations around gross margins, payroll, staffing costs and inventory
  • Provide practical, high-level financial insights to Australian business owners
  • Work as part of a pod structure with other accounting team members
  • Participate in regular daily team huddles
  • Work closely with the Australian client management team
  • Communicate directly with clients where appropriate and support the local client manager when required

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of accounting and finance experience, including hands-on and strong experience supporting Australian practices
  • Strong experience in Australian public practice accounting
  • Proficiency with Xero and Excel
  • Experience managing multiple clients and switching between different businesses and priorities
  • Experience preparing Australian financial reports, management reports and tax returns
  • Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, manual journals, accounts payable and BAS
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly analytical and accurate approach
  • Curious and commercially minded approach
  • High level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential financial information
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • CA or CPA qualification will be highly regarded
  • Experience providing management accounting or fractional CFO-style support to small businesses will be highly regarded
  • Australian Payroll experience considered an advantage
  • Experience working with companies, trusts, SMSFs and individual returns
