Job Description
Senior Machine Learning Engineer building large-scale predictive models for FlightAware’s aviation intelligence products. Improving flight arrival, landing, and taxi-time predictions for airlines and airports.
Responsibilities:
- Build next-generation machine learning models for new FlightAware Foresight products
- Improve existing machine learning models
- Develop state-of-the-art machine learning systems using historical aviation data and hundreds of millions of examples
- Build models for runway landing times, gate arrival times, taxi durations, and other aviation predictions
- Work with large datasets and niche large-scale data technologies
- Solve open-ended machine learning and performance-efficiency problems
- Contribute ideas and help shape the direction of the Aviation Intelligence team
- Improve operational efficiency for airlines and airports through predictive aviation data
- Provide models whose results power the FlightAware Foresight product suite and live predictive aviation data for industry customers
- Work within an agile development style
Requirements:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without company immigration sponsorship now or in the future
- Strong knowledge of Python
- Experience with TensorFlow/Keras or PyTorch
- Experience with complex data types such as time series, image, and video
- Ability to work within an agile development style
- Preferred: experience with Kubernetes, AWS, and GPU acceleration
- Preferred: experience with graph neural networks
- Preferred: experience with weather or other geospatial datasets
- Preferred: experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, or similar observability stacks
- Preferred: familiarity with Dagster, Airflow, or other ETL orchestration tools
- Preferred: familiarity with Iceberg, Spark, Elasticsearch, and other large-scale data processing systems
- Preferred: experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises Kubernetes infrastructure
