Job Description
Senior PHP Engineer leading distributed-system architecture for Airalo, the global eSIM store. Scaling PHP services, mentoring engineers, and improving reliability for 30+ million users.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of high-performance distributed systems capable of handling global traffic
- Develop and refine services to improve scalability and efficiency
- Drive the transition toward service-oriented architecture to ensure modularity and resilience
- Enforce SOLID principles, design patterns, and testing standards
- Coach mid-level engineers through code reviews and technical knowledge sharing
- Identify service bottlenecks and implement advanced caching and database strategies
- Partner with Product and DevOps to translate complex requirements into scalable technical roadmaps
- Participate in the on-call rotation to maintain 24/7 service reliability
Requirements:
- 7+ years of professional backend development experience with deep mastery of PHP
- 4+ years of enterprise-grade application development in Laravel or equivalent senior background in Symfony
- Mastery of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and messaging patterns such as SQS or Pub/Sub
- Ability to effectively use AI tools during technical tasks, including prompting, validating, and iterating
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, including performance tuning and transactions at scale
- Experience architecting on AWS and managing containerized environments with Docker
- Clean code, automated testing, and CI/CD best practices
- Fluent English and ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to stakeholders
- Experience with SaaS/PaaS, SOA, or microservices architecture (bonus)
- Experience with eSIM or GSMA technologies (bonus)
- Familiarity with Traveltech solutions (bonus)
- Experience building or maintaining custom SDKs (bonus)
