Job Description
Senior Researcher leading mixed-methods research and mentoring teams at Ad Hoc, a technology company building digital services for government agencies. Influencing research strategy, stakeholder decisions, and product outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an experienced individual contributor with developing leadership, guidance, and mentoring responsibilities
- Support scope, schedule, and delivery requirements with minimal oversight
- Contribute to long-term program goals and development of the program’s research strategy
- Serve as the discipline’s primary lead with stakeholders when needed
- Build relationships with team members, government and company stakeholders, and program management
- Lead cross-functional efforts for team members and team leads
- Navigate ambiguous requirements and environments to support delivery
- Plan, conduct, analyze, and share research knowledge based on team questions and goals
- Prioritize research projects according to team needs, goals, and research capacity
- Plan and facilitate collaboration among researchers, product team members, and stakeholders
- Influence and communicate research strategy for the program
- Coach and mentor researchers through actionable feedback
- Participate in grading candidate homework and panel interviews
- Identify risks, communicate them to leadership, and recommend mitigations
- Oversee research scope and recommendations
- Lead communication of research results to internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to planning, conducting, and synthesizing research
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Relevant professional experience may be substituted for education where permitted
- Prior experience serving as a mentor to junior level team members
- Extensive experience with research principles and relevant technologies
- Understanding of interacting roles and how research work impacts business goals
- Experience with design software such as Figma, Miro, Adobe or other designer tools
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Domo or Datadog
- Experience with QA, particularly checking products during launch to ensure they meet user expectations and provided designs
- Strong mixed-methods research experience across discovery, evaluative research, interviews, usability testing, and surveys
- Strong synthesis skills and ability to translate findings into practical recommendations
- Comfortable working independently across multiple product teams and with CMS stakeholders
- Ability to work in complex/technical spaces; experience with developer-facing products or APIs is a plus given FHIR
- Some design experience or fluency, approximately 90% research and 10% design
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
