Job Description
Senior Sales and Use Tax Accountant managing multi-state tax audits, reconciliations, research, and compliance. Supporting tax-liability mitigation, process improvement, and cross-functional operations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure superior service to customers, external vendors, and government agencies while maintaining compliance with state and local tax laws
- Manage sales and use tax audits in a multi-state environment, emphasizing tax-burden minimization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Assist business operations with processes to mitigate tax liabilities
- Analyze and continuously improve processes for efficiency, quality, and accuracy
- Conduct multi-state audit defense for Sales & Use, Severance, Business Licenses, and Fuel Taxes
- Resolve tax issues with external customers
- Respond to internal customer and vendor inquiries regarding state and local tax matters
- Prepare reconciliations for Sales and Use tax accounts
- Complete multi-state Sales & Use tax research projects
- Assist with due diligence analysis for multi-state and local taxes related to mergers and acquisitions
- Provide research support for SAP and Vertex tax software
- Draft technical correspondence to state officials regarding tax-law interpretations
- Apply for, obtain, and implement special exemptions
- Participate in continuous tax-process improvement initiatives
- Develop, author, plan, and deliver training for internal customers
- Support Sales & Use Tax compliance goals and perform additional compliance duties as required
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in multi-state sales & use tax audit defense
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting
- Computer literacy
- Windows Environment
- Word Processing
- Excel Spreadsheet
- Vertex Software a plus
- SAP experience a plus
- Social/interpersonal skills
- Oral and written communication
- Positive collaboration and teamwork
- Project management skills
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Able to develop and administer efficient work processes
- Analytical approach to problem solving
- Knowledge of process control
- Capability to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to work with standard office/computer equipment
- Ability to participate in required overnight travel as needed
- Physical capability to walk, sit, lift, push, and climb significantly
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
