Job Description
Senior Rust Engineer building Kubernetes control planes for Mirantis’ AI infrastructure platforms. Developing networking, DPU, and bare-metal orchestration systems for high-performance workloads.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain production-grade control-plane microservices, custom Kubernetes operators, and reconciliation engines in Rust and Go
- Author functional and non-functional requirements, architectural specifications, system sequence diagrams, and gRPC/Protobuf and REST API schemas
- Develop integration modules for SONiC, NVUE, Cumulus, and DPU hardware platforms
- Instrument services with OpenTelemetry traces and metrics
- Perform root-cause analysis across polyglot distributed systems
- Participate in review-gated pull request workflows across Rust, Go, and SQL codebases
- Ensure high test coverage through mock-driven testing
- Drive control-plane development for high-density, high-throughput AI training and inference infrastructure
- Contribute to open-source projects
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of software engineering experience in cloud-native platforms, systems programming, networking, or infrastructure automation
- Primary mastery of Rust, including Tokio async runtime, Tonic, Axum, and sqlx
- Proficiency in Go as a secondary language
- Commitment to test-driven design and mock-driven testing for external hardware and network dependencies
- Proven track record writing architectural specifications and participating in cross-functional design reviews
- Advanced SQL/PostgreSQL fluency
- gRPC/Protobuf contract design and schema evolution
- Strong background in async concurrency models, lock-free patterns, distributed state handling, and mock-driven testing
- Expertise in BGP, MP-BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, L3VNI, route targets, and route server design
- Hands-on experience with SONiC, Cumulus Linux, and NVUE
- Knowledge of NVIDIA DOCA, Host-Based Networking, BlueField DPU architectures, and DPF operator model
- Understanding of InfiniBand, NVLink/NMX-M partitioning, and RoCEv2
- Advanced knowledge of Linux netlink, network namespaces, routing tables, and DHCP/DNS service implementations
- Familiarity with CNI plugins such as Calico and Cilium
- Expertise in PXE/iPXE, UEFI, Secure Boot, measured boot, and TPM attestation
- Proficiency in Redfish, IPMI, and BMC abstractions
- In-depth knowledge of boot chains, systemd, initramfs, and BIOS configuration matrices
- Experience with PKI, X.509 certificates, TLS, SPIFFE/SVID, Vault, KMS, Keycloak, OAuth2/JWT, and RBAC
- Experience with KubeVirt/KVM
- Experience writing Kubernetes controllers/operators using kube-rs or controller-runtime and CRD-driven reconciliation patterns
