Job Description
Senior technical lead building nonprofit giving software with TypeScript, React, and AI-assisted engineering. Owning technical outcomes, architecture, quality, and mentoring at Bloomerang.
Responsibilities:
- Own the team's technical outcomes, including code quality, reliability, maintainability, security, and technical execution
- Lead technical direction and design within the team's domain
- Translate product and business problems into pragmatic technical solutions and drive implementation
- Mentor engineers, provide technical feedback, and raise the team's engineering standards
- Use AI tools and automation to improve engineering workflows, quality, and delivery
- Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, performance concerns, and reliability issues
- Diagnose complex technical problems using debugging, observability, and system-level knowledge
- Build quality into development through automated testing, code review, observability, and continuous feedback
- Partner with Product, QA, Engineering, Staff Engineers, and architects
Requirements:
- Strong, recent experience building and shipping production software as a hands-on engineer
- Deep proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript across the stack
- Experience with Node.js, Express, React, and modern web development
- Strong experience with relational data modeling and SQL (PostgreSQL)
- Experience with REST API design, asynchronous programming, automated testing, production debugging, and observability
- Experience incrementally modernizing legacy systems while a live product remains operational
- Experience building and operating integrations and data synchronization between systems
- Ability to make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and delivery speed
- Experience as the senior technical engineer or technical lead on a team
- Ability to independently develop technical approaches, make tradeoffs, and drive implementation and delivery
- Hands-on fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar
- Experience using AI in coding, debugging, research, code analysis, and problem-solving
- Ability to identify AI and automation opportunities that improve workflows, team leverage, and quality
- Track record of mentoring engineers and raising technical capability
- Ability to communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs clearly with Engineering, Product, QA, and other partners
- Collaborative technical leadership and continuous-improvement mindset

- Nice-to-have experience with Java/JVM, AngularJS, AWS, LaunchDarkly/OpenFeature, Playwright/Jest, multi-tenant SaaS, CRM, nonprofit, or volunteer management
