Job Description

Senior Staff Data Engineer building scalable data infrastructure for SonderMind’s digital mental health platform. Leading pipelines, architecture, reliability, and compliance for analytics, ML, and clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain core data pipelines and infrastructure for analytics, experimentation, machine learning, AI fine-tuning, and agentic use cases
  • Own data architecture decisions for ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers
  • Establish and enforce data quality, observability, reliability, SLA, monitoring, alerting, and incident response standards
  • Partner with analytics, data science, and product engineering teams to translate data needs into reusable models and pipelines
  • Lead technical initiatives and data engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, documentation, and data contracts
  • Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory requirements for sensitive mental health and healthcare data
  • Mentor and support data engineers through technical guidance and design feedback
  • Support evolving platform needs and ad-hoc projects
  • Take ownership of critical pipelines or platform components and improve reliability and clarity
  • Influence platform direction and raise engineering standards across the data organization

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or backend engineering roles
  • Strong proficiency in SQL
  • At least one general-purpose programming language; Python strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining production data pipelines at scale
  • Experience with modern data platforms, including cloud data warehouses, orchestration tools, and transformation frameworks
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, pipeline reliability, and system design trade-offs
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and translate business needs into effective technical solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Familiarity with modern AI productivity tools such as Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, or GitHub Copilot is expected and considered essential
