Job Description

Senior Systems Administrator responsible for managing and optimizing cloud and hybrid infrastructure. Ensuring system security compliance for government clients while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer, monitor, and optimize VAEC environments supporting the Enrollment System (ES), EDB, IVM, and VistA REE.
  • Provision, configure, and maintain cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure (Windows, Linux, RHEL, VMware, Azure/AWS).
  • Implement and manage system security controls in compliance with FedRAMP, FISMA, IRS 1075, HIPAA, and VA directives.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and environment refreshes for development, test, and production.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and capacity using tools such as Splunk, Azure Monitor, and custom dashboards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, outages, and degradation across cloud and on-premises systems.
  • Manage user access, authentication, and privileged accounts (Active Directory, MFA, RBAC).
  • Perform regular backups, disaster recovery testing, and root cause analysis for system failures.
  • Maintain system documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, and product teams to support modernization, migration, and integration efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with change management, patching, and vulnerability remediation processes.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 escalation and after-hours support for critical incidents.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related technical discipline.
  • 6 years of relevant system administration experience; 10 additional years may be substituted for education.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, VAEC), virtualization (VMware), and enterprise operating systems (Windows, Linux, RHEL).
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks, compliance requirements, and access management.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell).
  • Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools (Splunk, Azure Monitor).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and support after-hours escalation.
