Job Description

Senior Unity Technical Artist creating and integrating 2D/3D assets, VFX, shaders, and animations for Seismic Squirrel’s narrative RPG videogames. Optimizing visuals, solving art challenges, and collaborating remotely across development teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and integrate 2D artwork, including layers, transparency, and parallax effects
  • Create and integrate 3D models, vehicles, environment objects, props, and textures
  • Create and integrate 2D and 3D VFX, materials, shaders, and animations
  • Handle cameras, lighting, reflections, set dressing, particles, surfaces, rigging, and physics
  • Optimize and profile visual elements for suitable frame rates and load times
  • Provide visual solutions for challenging art requirements and prototype new visual concepts
  • Collaborate with art and narrative teams to align artwork with the game's visual design and themes
  • Troubleshoot art problems within videogames
  • Mentor artists developing their technical art skills
  • Explain technical art concerns to the development team
  • Collaborate across the development team, communicating progress and problems and helping set realistic timelines and expectations
  • Participate in internal game testing and provide artistic feedback
  • Create and maintain core technical documentation
  • Balance and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, agreed timeframes, and budgets

Requirements:

  • Senior level with 8+ years of professional technical art experience working on videogames in Unity
  • Experience across the full videogame development lifecycle: concept, design, prototyping, programming, content creation, testing, optimization, launch, and support
  • Deep understanding of perspective and lighting
  • Ability to work within an established artistic style
  • Familiarity with technical artistry best practices, design patterns, and unit testing
  • Understanding of Unity, its render pipelines, and interaction with various art forms
  • Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
  • Strong self-discipline, motivation, organization, attention to detail, and adaptability
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplines and personality types
  • Skilled at working remotely using collaboration tools
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal English communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of source control and project branching strategies
  • Experience with professional art tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, 3ds Max, Blender, and Adobe Substance Painter
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio
  • Portfolio representing artwork required
  • Must reside within the UTC-4 to UTC-8 timezones
  • Must be located and authorized to work in the USA or Canada
  • H-1B transfers and sponsorships are not available
  • Bonus: strong 3D modeling and texturing skills, orthographic asset views, ZBrush, Python or Lua scripting, and UI design
