Job Description
Special Projects Manager driving FLI’s communications design and digital projects from briefs through launch. Managing agencies, quality assurance, brand coherence, and mission-focused special initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop clear, actionable creative and technical briefs from stakeholder requirements
- Challenge unclear, conflicting or unscoped requests constructively
- Define project success with internal and external stakeholders
- Integrate project goals into design and content strategies
- Develop and execute communications projects
- Identify skill gaps and source web development agencies or freelancers
- Onboard and manage agencies and contractors
- Define completion standards and own quality assurance
- Review deliverables against briefs, brand guidelines and WCAG accessibility standards
- Run structured review rounds and maintain the final quality bar before launch
- Ideate and develop digital products supporting FLI's mission and organizational objectives
- Deliver multi-month special projects, including international creative contests, end to end
- Maintain design-system and brand coherence with the website development agency
- Drive design and digital projects from initial scoping through completion
- Report directly to the Director of Communications
Requirements:
- Based in a timezone between the West Coast, USA and the UK (UTC-8 to UTC+1)
- Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- Ability to navigate competing priorities and secure alignment from senior colleagues
- Track record of building or significantly improving delivery processes, including intake, review, QA or approval workflows
- Project management experience across design, communications and/or digital/web projects
- Genuine interest in FLI's mission and related issues
- Sharp quality instincts and confidence to reject inadequate deliverables
- Portfolio of shipped work quality-assured, ideally
- Calm under deadline pressure; comfortable saying no and offering alternatives
- Preferred: experience running participatory or multi-stakeholder projects such as contests, awards, grant rounds or festivals
- Preferred: familiarity with website delivery, CMS platforms and technical literacy to triage issues and communicate with developers
- Preferred: working knowledge of SEO, digital audience growth, GA4, Search Console, analytics, technical and on-page SEO fundamentals
- Preferred: nonprofit, policy, advocacy or campaign experience
