Job Description
Staff Engineer leading SmartLogic's custom software consultancy projects with Elixir, Ruby, Flutter, and cloud architecture. Guiding teams, delivery, DevOps, AI-assisted development, and client solutioning.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership for multiple ongoing custom software projects
- Own planning and implementation of technical delivery and team efficiency
- Maintain the Product Requirements Document, backlog, technical direction, and sprint planning with the Project Manager
- Commit directly to the codebase, pair program, lead code review, and use AI tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality
- Mentor teams of 2 to 6 developers, designers, and QA analysts
- Co-lead delivery projects with the Project Manager to deliver on budget and on time
- Guide teams in SmartLogic's product development processes and plan weekly goals
- Provide hands-on leadership for CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, AI innovations, environment configuration, and production operations
- Communicate project progress, challenges, and resourcing needs with company leadership and project teams
- Support technical discovery, solution architecture, and rough-order-of-magnitude estimates for sales and consulting projects
- Design, review, and support scalable, secure cloud and server architectures, primarily AWS and Azure
- Serve as technical expert on assigned projects, including QA and pull request review
- Assist in pre-sales through solutioning, scope refinement, and estimates
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience with modern software development practices and technologies, creating custom software for a variety of clients
- 7+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails, Elixir, and Phoenix
- 2+ years of experience with Flutter and/or React Native
- 5+ years of experience with DevOps practices including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, deployment, and tooling
- Practical, hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools in a real production codebase
- Ability to validate AI-generated code against normal testing and review standards
- Ability to evaluate AI tools and establish repeatable team workflows
- Judgment to recognize when AI assistance introduces security, privacy, or quality risk
- 3+ years in a consultancy, not solely product-based companies
- Experience participating in technical discovery, solution design, and estimation for client-facing and sales prospect projects
- Organized, thoughtful, and intentional approach to process
- Ability to set and manage expectations among teammates and managers
- Availability during SmartLogic's core working hours of 10:00 AM–3:30 PM ET on weekdays
- Must be located in the United States or its territories
