Job Description

Staff Software Engineer modernizing Beckett’s collectibles grading and marketplace platform. Leading TypeScript, Java, PHP, AWS, and AI-assisted engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the architecture of Beckett’s team domain end to end, including services, data flows, integrations, and failure modes
  • Design scalable products and services with clear boundaries, contracts, data ownership, and migration paths
  • Lead modernization work involving PHP monolith strangler patterns and Java-to-TypeScript service replacements
  • Build understanding of adjacent systems including grading, marketplace, CRM, payments, identity, and data/ETL
  • Establish standards for security, testing, observability, and operational excellence
  • Lead adoption of AI-assisted engineering standards and guardrails across the technology organization
  • Identify AI use cases for legacy-code comprehension, test generation, and migration scaffolding; measure impact
  • Lead moderate-scope, complex projects spanning one to two quarters
  • Coordinate engineers, stakeholders, and dependencies toward predictable delivery
  • Plan and prioritize work using a value-versus-cost framework
  • Communicate blockers and delays proactively
  • Foster knowledge sharing and documentation with engineers and business stakeholders
  • Build relationships across the organization
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews, pairing, and feedback
  • Raise organizational AI fluency through workflows, prompts, agent configurations, and coaching

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated technical leadership of multi-engineer, multi-quarter projects
  • Expert-level backend engineering in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Java
  • Range across TypeScript, Java 21, PHP, Python, and C#
  • Hands-on production experience across React/Next.js frontends, API and service layers, relational data stores, and infrastructure
  • Proven experience modernizing legacy systems under live traffic
  • Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and MySQL, including data modeling, migrations, and performance
  • Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including REST, GraphQL, gRPC, SQS, idempotency, and failure handling
  • Production AWS expertise with ECS, Lambda, networking, and IAM
  • Infrastructure-as-code fluency with AWS CDK and/or Terraform
  • Experience raising engineering standards through testing, observability, documentation, and incident response
  • Daily fluency with AI coding assistants and agentic tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or Cursor
  • Experience integrating AI tools into CI, code review, and documentation workflows
  • Mature judgment regarding AI-generated code verification, security, and limitations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and business audiences
  • Experience with frontend architecture at scale or React Native/Expo
  • Experience with e-commerce, marketplace, payments, or high-traffic consumer platforms
  • Data platform exposure or applied ML experience
  • Experience building and responsibly shipping LLM-powered features or platforms
  • Interest in sports cards, gaming, or collectibles
  • Ability to work legally in the United States, validated through e-Verify
