Job Description
Technical Lead overseeing design and implementation of AI-driven automation systems for insurance. Collaborating with global teams while working remotely from China.
Responsibilities:
- Lead delivery of AI-driven workflow automation and backend system initiatives end-to-end.
- Translate complex operational and business problems into clear system designs and engineering execution plans.
- Design backend architectures and workflow systems for multi-step insurance processes.
- Define and implement system logic for approvals, state transitions, document flows and policy lifecycle automation.
- Review architecture, code and implementation quality to ensure correctness, scalability and reliability.
- Mentor engineers and raise overall engineering standards, system thinking and delivery quality.
- Work closely with product, operations, QA and DevOps to deliver complete, production-ready systems.
- Improve system stability through monitoring, debugging, root cause analysis and production issue resolution.
- Ensure high-quality releases with strong operational awareness and minimal production risk.
Requirements:
- Strong software engineering experience building production systems at scale.
- Proven experience leading technical delivery of backend or full-stack systems.
- Ability to break down complex operational workflows into system design and implementation plans.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, APIs, and distributed or workflow-based systems.
- Hands-on engineering mindset with ability to still contribute to code and technical implementation.
- Strong judgment on system design trade-offs, complexity and delivery risk.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams including product and operations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Calm under pressure when handling production incidents or tight delivery timelines.
- High ownership mindset with strong follow-through from design to production.
- Bonus Points: Experience building workflow automation systems, SaaS platforms or enterprise backend systems.
- Experience with event-driven architectures or state machine-based systems.
- Experience with AI/ML-enabled workflow or decision automation systems.
- Knowledge of Node.js, Python, Java or similar backend technologies.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and production monitoring systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing).
- Experience scaling systems in fast-growing or high-transaction environments.
- Contributions to system architecture decisions in previous roles.
