Job Description
On-call toxicologist supporting ICF’s environmental risk assessments for government and private clients. Reviewing literature, analyzing data, and developing toxicology reports and visualizations.
Responsibilities:
- Support federal agencies such as U.S. EPA and NIEHS, state agencies, and private sector clients
- Conduct qualitative reviews of scientific and peer-reviewed literature
- Research environmental risk assessment topics, synthesize findings, and communicate them through reports, websites, and visualizations
- Manage data and visualization tools, maintain rigorous databases, and create visualizations and dashboards
- Conduct study data extraction using electronic systematic review procedures and tools
- Perform data and statistical analysis using Excel, Access, R, SAS, Python, SQL, VBA, and/or other software
- Participate in scientific workshops through notetaking, workshop summary reports, and event logistics
- Follow standardized QA/QC procedures on documents and reports
- Perform toxicology systematic review tasks, including literature screening, study quality evaluation, and study data extraction
- Support risk assessment report development, including writing methods, results, and discussion sections
- Review conclusions based on data and synthesize findings into weight-of-evidence analyses
- Conduct dose-response analyses when needed
- Work across multiple projects with staff at all levels and develop professional client relationships
- No hands-on laboratory or field work
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Toxicology, Epidemiology, Public Health, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related subject, or Bachelor’s degree in one of these fields combined with equivalent experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience
- Ability to interact with and present project updates to clients
- Strong data-science skills, including experience managing and visualizing large datasets
- Exceptional research and scientific writing skills, including editing, reference management software such as EndNote, and proofreading
- Strong qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and visualization skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including developing and delivering presentations
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently, in groups, and virtually under strict deadlines
- Experience with Excel, Access, R, SAS, Python, SQL, VBA, and/or other software
- Experience with environmental science systematic reviews is a plus
