Job Description

UI/UX Researcher at Ruby Labs responsible for analyzing user behavior and driving conversion improvements through experiments and research. Conducting competitor research for SaaS and freemium products.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct systematic competitor and market research across SaaS, subscription, and freemium products — analyzing user flows, paywalls, onboarding funnels, and conversion patterns.
  • Mine quantitative data from analytics tools (Mixpanel, Microsoft Clarity, GrowthBook) to identify drop-off points, attention gaps, and underperforming screens.
  • Analyze heatmaps, session recordings, and attention data to surface CRO opportunities.
  • Deliver 10–15 experiment ideas per week, each scored using the ICE framework (Impact × Confidence × Ease) with a target threshold of 500+.
  • Write clear, testable hypotheses with defined success/failure criteria and primary metrics.
  • Create low-to-mid fidelity wireframes (AI Tools) to communicate test variants — clear enough for developers and stakeholders to act on.
  • Develop user personas, journey maps, and usability assessments specific to our funnel stages (Landing → Start → Quiz → Analyzing → Email Capture → Checkout).
  • Present insights and recommendations in twice-weekly Growth team brainstorming sessions.
  • Analyze post-test results and extract reusable patterns for the team's knowledge base.
  • Stay current on CRO, behavioral psychology, and SaaS conversion trends.

Requirements:

  • Research Experience: 3+ years in UX research — you've personally run competitor audits, heuristic evaluations, usability studies, and behavioral data analysis (not just visual design).
  • Funnel&SaaS Background: Proven experience with subscription-based or freemium products — you understand recurring revenue funnels, paywalls, and trial-to-paid flows (not just ecommerce/retail).
  • Analytical Toolkit: Fluency with heatmaps, session recordings, and A/B test platforms
  • Prioritization Rigor: Working knowledge of ICE/PIE or similar frameworks for scoring and ranking experiment ideas.
  • Wireframing Ability: Can create low-fidelity prototypes to communicate test concepts.
  • Data Fluency: Comfortable pulling insights from Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Hotjar, or Microsoft Clarity.
  • Communication: Clear, structured communicator who can present ideas to the team twice a week and document findings for stakeholders.
  • Portfolio: Case studies that demonstrate research process and insights — not just final UI designs.

Benefits:

  • Remote Work Environment: Embrace the freedom to work from anywhere, anytime, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
  • Unlimited PTO: Enjoy unlimited paid time off to recharge and prioritize your well-being, without counting days.
  • Paid National Holidays: Celebrate and relax on national holidays with paid time off to unwind and recharge.
  • Company-provided MacBook: Experience seamless productivity with top-notch Apple MacBooks provided to all employees who need them.
  • Flexible Independent Contractor Agreement: Unlock the benefits of flexibility, autonomy, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Benefit from tax advantages, networking opportunities, reduced employment obligations, and the freedom to work from anywhere.
