Job Description
Underwriting Counsel providing support and authorization for title insurance commitments and policies at Westcor Land Title Insurance Company. Collaborating with the team on title matters and real estate settlements.
Responsibilities:
- Provides underwriting support and authorization related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies
- Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
- Issues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes
- Examine title orders to determine conditions of the title and insurability
- Research title plant software, analyze and evaluate pertinent record documents
- Explain chain of title, exceptions, and requirements to customers and managers
- Recognize title defects and formulate curative solution
- Assess risks and liabilities that may jeopardize the company
- Maintain proper production levels and delivery standards on a daily basis
- Review surveys prepared on properties, if applicable
- Collaborate with the customer and escrow staff to meet time requirements
Requirements:
- 5+ years title underwriting experience
- Must be familiar with real estate law
- Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement process
- General knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services
- General understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies
- Ability to collaborate and act decisively
- Detail oriented
