Job Description
Assistant Dean leading academic nursing quality, accreditation, programs, faculty, and learner success. Strategic Education delivers higher education and online learning.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as administrator for an academic department within the School of Nursing & Health Sciences
- Collaborate with the Dean on academic quality, strategic portfolio management, faculty excellence, and learner success
- Monitor academic quality measures and identify improvement opportunities
- Oversee assessment and continuous quality improvement plans, including analytics, action plans, implementation, and systematic review
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation/external standards
- Engage in teaching or mentoring quarterly
- Align programs with university strategy, professional trends, market demand, instructional cost targets, and outcome measures
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans with the Dean, program directors, and Portfolio Strategy
- Oversee accreditation and external approval efforts, resource allocation, reporting, and site visits
- Represent the school to external partners, employers, professional organizations, and academic audiences
- Develop the annual operating plan in alignment with financial targets
- Oversee resource allocation, cost management, work equity, and compliance
- Lead school governance and operations, including faculty governance processes
- Direct curriculum definition and course development processes
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Learner Complaints and Resolutions, Enrollment Services, Academic Advising, and other stakeholders
- Oversee operational processes and implement efficiencies
- Create and implement faculty staffing plans
- Recruit, lead, manage, and develop program leaders and faculty in leadership roles
- Set performance standards and goals, review results, and provide feedback and coaching
- Promote professional and leadership development
- Identify leadership potential and create leadership development opportunities
- Contribute to employee engagement initiatives
- Demonstrate leadership practices that build community, foster success, and promote organizational effectiveness
Requirements:
- Relevant experience as a scholar-practitioner in a discipline within the school
- Minimum of 5 years teaching in higher education required
- Evidence of successful, progressive leadership experience, including academic administration in a college or university setting required
- Experience with nursing accreditation (CCNE, ACEN) processes, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement required
- Experience supporting, developing, and administering academic nursing programs in higher education, including curriculum development, program assessment, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives required
- Experience leading remote teams in a highly matrixed environment
- Record of scholarly contributions, including presentations, publications, and/or professional service preferred
- Familiarity with Competency-Based education and direct assessment preferred
- Ability to travel as required/needed
- Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DNP, or related terminal degree) from an accredited institution required
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution required
- All degrees must be conferred by an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain RN licensure in Minnesota and other states in which the institution operates, as required
- Multi-state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) preferred, where applicable
- Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
- Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant
