Job Description
Cataloger delivering PCC-level catalog records for a major federal library project. Classifying materials, assigning LCSH headings, and maintaining NACO authority records remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Create PCC BIBCO-level catalog records of English-language material across all subject areas except Law and Music
- Classify material using Library of Congress Classification
- Assign subject headings using Library of Congress Subject Headings
- Create and update name authority records to NACO standards
- Recommend new Library of Congress Subject Headings and/or classification numbers
- Track work and meet deadlines while providing high-quality cataloging for a major federal library project
Requirements:
- MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
- 2+ years of original cataloging experience in an academic or research library
- Expert knowledge of LCSH, LCC, MARC21, and other cataloging standards for monographic materials
- Demonstrated history of BIBCO- and NACO-level cataloging
- Thorough knowledge and experience in cataloging workflows
- Familiarity with Classification Web, Cataloger’s Desktop, and the LC Authorities list
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Excellent command of reading and writing English
- High attention to detail
- Ability to track work and meet deadlines
- Must be able to pass a federal security clearance
- Preferred: experience with Voyager or Folio library platforms
